Check out the newest gold cup wire insertion and prep tips. BEST
Instructors have put together video demonstrations of common hand
soldering tips and skills. These are not designed to be in place of
live one on one training where repetitive skills and subsequent one on
one feedback is given. Rather, they are quick refreshers designed to be
viewed if a specific skill has not been practiced in a while.

 Inspection of PWBs
Visual "Referee" Inspection
If you need a "referee" resource when clarification is required regarding
a PCB or wire harness acceptance standard interpretation, BEST can be that resource. Our Master
Instructors, who are military trained and have been instructors for the
IPC A610 courses for many years can provide a "third set of eyes" when an issue
arises in the PCB assembly process. We can provide a detailed report for
refereeing purposes. When you need an outside expert opinion, or when you
need to determine the existence of a PCB assembly process problem.
Endoscopic Inspection Several characteristics of the solder ball can be determined
with an endoscopic inspection tool. The actual standoff height, as well as degree of
warpage, can be measured. Capture software allows for both absolute and
relative measurements. This allows BEST to help you set up QC
measurements for real-time references for the boards being inspected.
Several defects can be measured and recorded via .jpeg or .mpeg images.
For example, solder joint cracks in connections inside, outside or
under the component body can be seen. |

Electronic Voting Machines PRO vs CON
As
the political season kicks into high gear the following is a discussion
on the use of electronics in the voting process in the US.
Direct recording
electronic (DRE) voting machines were introduced to enhance the voting
process, but their helpfulness is still contentious. Originally
developed in the 1970s, DRE usage has increased nationwide in each
subsequent local and federal election. However, it was not until after
the 2000 U.S. Presidential Election's issues with pregnant and hanging
chads and the passage of the 2002 Help America Vote Act (HAVA) that
voting technology became more widely argued. There is considerable
debate between election officials, computer scientists, politicians,
advocates for the disabled, and concerned citizens as to whether
electronic voting machines improve the voting process or not.
Some proponents
argue that electronic voting machines make the voting process more
efficient. They publicize DREs as being secure, able to unambiguously
capture the intent of a voter, capable of preventing residual votes,
reliable, easy to use, and accessible to disabled, illiterate, and
non-English speaking voters.
Some opponents of
electronic voting machines believe DREs give too much power over public
elections to their private manufacturers, are vulnerable to hacking and
other forms of tampering, do not allow for meaningful audits and
recounts, and do not offer voters a trustworthy form of verification. . Further Pros versus Cons here.
